This week’s Cadet of the Week is not from a service academy, but she is a cadet who will join the same ranks of the Air Force upon graduation from the Air Force ROTC program. The Air Force Academy is only one path towards becoming an officer, and many choose the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps instead. Read what Leticia Moretti has to say about her AFROTC experience.

My name is Leticia Moretti, I am a first year Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) cadet at Detachment 752 located at Wilkes University. I am currently majoring in Accounting at East Stroudsburg University. I have been searching for a group, a community, such as this one that provides leadership, strength and tradition.
A community is vital to the Air Force ROTC. It builds its society around values, integrity, service and excellence. With these values AFROTC is a very honorable group to be a part of. New experiences and the core values help this community point themselves in the right direction. It takes hard work, time and dedication from these outstanding members of ROTC to succeed in every aspect and move on to the next step. It is a great experience that entails an unforgettable time of professionalism and friendship.
With each day spent with this group, I have learned to develop my confidence and the ability to take on any obstacle and achieve any goal. The atmosphere is filled with excitement and support from the cadre and fellow cadets. Each cadet gets emotional during many tasks; we are all driven and motivated because every moment is thrilling and exhilarating.
In ROTC you will experience a whole other side of the world. ROTC allows you to get involved with other groups that are involved in the detachment. You will have a chance to visit military bases, get involved with community service and special operations.
This particular special operation was an amazing occasion for me. During one weekend, we had the chance to experience a little bit of deployment action. We learned many tactics and used them while playing paintball. That weekend was very educational; we learned how to trust one another and a bond was created that got the group through thick and thin during different stages of the deployment period.
I am proud to know what I am a part of. It is so invigorating to know that not only are you becoming a leader for the United States Air Force, but also a better citizen that is dedicated to serving the nation. This is a once in a lifetime occurrence, where you get to interact with great individuals and become a leader. Air Force ROTC opens so many opportunities, and a chance to be the best.
As for my future in Air Force ROTC and college, I will complete my three years of college and become an Accountant in the United States Air Force. I will continue to be a part of this community, and I look forward to serving America in the United States Air Force. AIR POWER!!
