Hundreds of cadets and midshipmen at America’s service academies have passed through the gates of Get Into Academy to get accepted into the academy of their choice. As per Adlai Stevenson, “Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.” We hope to help provide everything you need to know about getting into USMA, USAFA, USNA, USCGA, and USMMA. Good luck, candidate. Keep in mind that knowing is not enough. You must apply it.
What is this site all about?
Get Into Academy was created to help thousands of yearly applicants to the service academies in America. These include the US Military Academy at West Point, the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, the US Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, the US Coast Guard Academy at New London, and the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. We believe in helping these applicants because they have an honorable objective and our nation’s armed forces need all the bright young men and women who are willing to serve.
What we realized is that there isn’t a central resource for academy applicants to visit. What do applicants rely on right now? Word of mouth, a few books, movies and — of course — the informational booklets from the academies. Also, there are several scattered forum posts and small personal websites dedicated to the application process. But Get Into Academy is the last and only place a candidate has to visit for all of his or her application needs.
We are always excited to feature new stories, so if you are a current or past cadet at one of the academies, feel free to share your experience or advice and we will publish it here. Read more about it at Get Featured on Cadet of the Week.
Who’s responsible for this project?
Get Into Academy is a social, interactive project involving everyone in the service academy admissions process: past, present and future. But you probably want to know more about person behind the facade of Get Into Academy. I’m Dave, the writer who’s responsible for starting this website. I started Get Into Academy because, when I was applying to the US Military Academy, I had wished for a central resource to read about all the service academies, their admissions processes, and what to expect once you get in. After a long, exhaustive preparation period, I eventually received my appointment to West Point with a letter of assurance and two principal congressional nominations. But I believe this application process can be facilitated and misunderstandings can be cleared up by learning from the experiences of past successful candidates.
If you want to help America’s young men and women who want to serve our country, check the available volunteer opportunities for Get Into Academy on our idealist.org profile.
Who collects profit from this website?
Do not be mistaken by the .com domain because this is not a commercial website and there is no profit. All the information on Get Into Academy is free for our visitors. You may notice a few contextual ads or banners, and these are necessary quirks to keep this website alive. Other than that, Get Into Academy has nothing to gain besides advancing the success rates of candidates who have a dream of service to the United States.
